Piers Saxby Candy Studio specialises in handmade original lighting and furniture.  Each piece is made from scratch by Piers at his studio in the heart of Sussex.  After launching his new range in September 2012 at the London Design festival and being successful at Liberty's 'Best of British Open Call' in 2011 Piers continues to develop his range of products.

Piers' background is primarily in Fine Art Sculpture having studied at Winchester School of Art and then going on to work for British artists, most notably, Sir Anthony Caro, as studio assistant. It was in Caro's London studio that he honed his wood and metalworking techniques first developed at Winchester. Through making and showing his own sculpture he uncovered a desire to make more functional objects and in 2010 his sculptures started to evolve into lighting. He has since developed his range to include items of furniture.

Piers' starting point is always the material selection - the quality of the material is very important - keeping it where possible in its raw form with minimal interference. He endeavours to source everything locally with wood and lead salvaged and reclaimed from local buildings and objects. Piers hand makes what he can himself from cutting the wood, casting the weights and shades and turning the light fittings. The designs often evolve on the work bench as no plans are drawn beforehand. He prides himself on using British materials and religiously sources the reclaimed metal shades on the floor lights from British factories.
